Our Principal
Dear RP Harris Families and Community,
As I enter my second year as Principal of RP Harris Elementary School, I do so with immense gratitude and continued enthusiasm. It has been an honor to serve this incredible school community, and I remain deeply committed to building on the strong foundation we’ve created together.
With over 18 years in education, as a Teacher, Instructional Specialist, Instructional Facilitator, and Assistant Principal, I bring not only experience but a deep passion for student success. Over the past year, I have had the privilege of witnessing the resilience, brilliance, and potential of our students, as well as the dedication of our staff and the unwavering support of our families.
At RP Harris, our mission remains clear: to provide students with rigorous and meaningful academic experiences while nurturing strong relationships and creating real-world connections. Together, we will continue to cultivate a school culture that is positive, engaging, and inclusive, where every child feels valued, challenged, and inspired to soar.
As we embark on this new school year, I look forward to strengthening our partnerships and continuing the legacy of excellence at RP Harris Elementary School.
Let’s make this year even better; together we will SOAR to new heights!
Warm regards,
Alicia Umeh, M.Ed

Our Assistant Principal
Greetings! I am ecstatic to begin my 17th year in education as Assistant Principal at RP Harris Elementary! I bring over 16 years of diverse educational experience to my role, beginning my teaching journey in 2008, teaching for a year at a proprietary school. After completing my degree at LeTourneau University, I began my work in public education. My career has spanned multiple grade levels and roles, from teaching 5th grade self-contained classes to middle school instruction from 2011-2021.
In 2021, I transitioned to serving as a Middle School English Language Arts and Reading Instructional Specialist for two years, where I supported teachers and curriculum development. When Houston ISD underwent state leadership changes, I returned to the classroom to experience the NES model firsthand and continue expanding my pedagogical expertise. My commitment to student success was recognized at the end of the 2023-2024 school year when my students' growth and achievement earned me exemplary status and Teacher of the Year.
Currently, I serve as Assistant Principal here at RP Harris, a role I began in July 2024. My varied experience across elementary and middle school settings, combined with both classroom teaching and instructional leadership roles, provides me with a comprehensive understanding of student development, multilingual needs and educational best practices.
It is an honor to serve our students, parents and community.
Regina Cooper, M. Ed, Assistant Principal
